As of July 1, 2022, the Maryland statutory child support guidelines have been updated by the legislature. Co-parents with a combined monthly income up to $30,000 are now subject to Maryland’s basic child support schedule and obligations, whereas previously the statutory use of the Maryland child support guidelines stopped at $15,000 and was discretionary above that amount. Additionally, the amount of child support has increased for parents with a combined annual income of more than $19,200. The updated Maryland child support guidelines apply to cases filed after July 1, 2022. Maryland’s child support guidelines will also now take into consideration parents at lower income levels, permitting the Courts to first calculate the parent’s needs to support themselves before being ordered to pay child support.
